  • Global Justice for Animals and the Environment

Global Justice for Animals and the Environment (http://gjae.org), works to address the threat posed by international trade and investment agreements to animals; the environment; safe, ethical, and sustainable food; and the human rights of environmental defenders. Our research team provides animal and environmental advocacy groups, members of Congress, and the broader global justice movement with in-depth analysis of the threat to animals and the planet posed by free trade agreements.

As advocates, we mobilize our allies to pressure elected officials to oppose anti-animal free, ecologically destructive trade agreements and to hold them accountable when they vote against animals and the planet. To provide activists with the tools they need for effective grassroots lobbying efforts on free trade agreements, we develop resource kits for animal and environmental advocacy groups

GJAE's grassroots chapters and affiliates bring our educational and advocacy efforts to the local level through educational forums, protests, street theater, film screenings, lobbying. nonviolent civil disobedience,. local media outreach, and affiliates participate in fair trade and trade justice coalitions at the state and local level.

GJAE is committed to building alliances between animal advocates, grassroots environmentalists, and other sectors of the global justice movement. . Our chapters participate in fair trade and trade justice coalitions at the local and state level.

GJAE recognizes the profound commitment of indigenous communities to protecting the environment and the intense repression and violence they face in their struggles against free trade policies that allow extractive industries to destroy ecosystems for profit. We work closely with with indigenous communities and their allies in support of their efforts to protect our planet and to defend the rights of these frontline eco-defenders. To demonstrate that responsible animal advocacy and environmental organizations stand united against NAFTA-style trade agreements, we draft sign-on letters, circulate them to animal and environmental advocacy organizations to endorse, and fax them to every member of Congress. In 2005, we sent a letter to Congress in opposition to the Dominican Republic-Central America Free Trade Agreement -- with the endorsement of 103 organizations. Working with the media, we inform the public that pro-corporate trade agreements endanger animals, and that people who care about animals must demand that their legislators oppose them. Global Justice for Animals and the Environment is a 100% volunteer-run project. Our volunteers have the contacts, the experience, and the knowledge to give animals and the environment a fighting chance in the battle for global justice. We Need Your Help!
