  • Call to Thank or Spank* Your Senators for their Peru Free Trade Vote!

On December 4th, 2007, The US Senate passed H.R. 3688, the United States-Peru Trade Promotion Agreement Implementation Act, a bill to implement the United States-Peru Free Trade Agreement, over the objections of animal rights and environmental advocates and our allies in a wide range of social justice movements. Please contact your Senators to express your opinion on their vote.

Call to thank your rep for voting "NAY" or to express your outrage if your rep voted "YEA" on the Peru Free Trade Agreement! For background on why the Peru Free Trade Agreement is bad deal for animals, click here.

Visit http://snipurl.com/Leglookup to find out who represents you and for your Senator's contact info. Then look below to find out how your Senator voted. Of particular interest are the 5 Senators who didn't vote-- every 2008 presidential candidate in the Senate! In a sad display of political cowardice, these Senators kept to the campaign trail and stayed out of the Senate for this critical but highly controversial vote. Please let them know that they were elected to be Senators, not campaigners, and you expect them to do their jobs. While none of them bothered to show, Biden and Dodd had expressed opposition to the agreement, wheras Clinton, Obama, and McCain expressed support for it.

(* We oppose spanking-- of children. Congressional reps who sell out to corporations and betray the public interest on trade are another matter entirely.)
